Foreword

Foreword written by Dr. Kimmons' godmother, the late, great, Honorable Shirley Chisholm. She was the first African Amercain female to be elected to the U.S. Congress (1968). The first female to seek the office of the Presidency of the United States (1972).

As a former director of New York City Day Care Centers and now a retired educator and politician, I realize the importance of this guidebook for parents. Quality education is paramount to a child's growth, development and success in life. Parents are the necessary key ingredients in improving children's education. 

This parent guidebook is designed to assist parents in understanding the connection of their role and the role of all the agencies and community groups who are there for support. I encourage all interested educators, parents, grandparents, community leaders, and concerned citizens to read this guidebook.
